Board Stackers Come With SMT Leads

Aug. 1, 1999

Miniaturization is forcing designers of electronic products to stack pc boards ever closer together. In response to this challenge, a new family of surface-mount connectors has been developed that permits boards to be stacked as close as 2.5 mm apart. The new connectors have a 0.5-mm lead pitch and employ bellows-shaped contacts to help achieve reliable interconnections. They are available with 40, 50, 80 and 100 pins, but other pin counts can also be supplied. The SMT stacking connectors are available packaged for use in pick-and-place assembly processes.
