The Texas Instruments ADS5400 analog-to-digital converter (ADC) provides a 1-Gbit/s sample rate with a resolution of 12 bits. With its superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR), it’s ideal for extra-needy wireless applications like receivers for radar, electronic intelligence and jamming, and super-highspeed data acquisition.
The ADS5400 offers an excellent SNR of 59 dBFS and 75-dBc SFDR in first Nyquist and 58-dBFS SNR and 70-dBc SFDR for intermediate frequencies (IFs) beyond 1000 MHz. The fully buffered analog input isolates the onboard sample and hold’s internal switching to prevent disturbing the signal source, while providing a high-impedance input. Other key features include:
- Fully buffered, 12-bit, 1-Gsample/s ADC with 2.1-GHz input bandwidth
- Buffered analog input that provides constant input impedance across time and frequency
- Adjustable fine gain, offset, and phase that lets designers interleave two or more ADCs to create a multi- Gsample/s digitizer or the balancing of two ADCs in an I/Q receiver
- 100-pin thin quad flat pack (TQFP), 16- by 16-mm package with exposed thermal pad
- User-selectable single- or dual-bus double-data rate (DDR) low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS)
Made with TI’s high-speed, proprietary BiCom3 complementary bipolar silicon-germanium (SiGe) technology using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) process that is well suited for high-temperature and highradiation environments
The ADS5400 costs $775 in 100-unit lots. An evaluation module (EVM) that’s compatible with TI’s TSW1200EVM digital capture card is available now.
