By integrating its packet management solutions with Vitesse's IQ2000 network processor, the company plans to provide network OEMs with a total system solution that speeds time to market and accelerates switching and routing performance in OC-12, OC-48 and higher-speed SONET systems, as well as Gigabit and multi-Gigabit Ethernet systems. The joint solution is claimed to allow two of the most computationally-intensive functions, packet boarding and packet classification, to be offloaded from the network processor to a co-processing function provided by the company's ternary CAM. The SiberCAM Ultra-2M solution delivers up to 100 million multi-layers, multi-protocol look-ups per second while providing a low power, high-density variable word width solution. The combined solutions promise to allow 40% to 70% of the processing cycles required by the network processor to perform packet boarding and classification to be offloaded from the processor onto the SiberCAM.
