Overvoltage Protection Devices Squeeze Into Portable Systems
Developed using firm's proprietary TVS process technology, the SMFxx and STFxxx families of highly integrated transient voltage suppression devices exceed the stringent overvoltage protection and lower space requirements of sensitive CMOS technology. They save space in portable devices such as cellular and cordless phones, PDAs, notebook PCs, handheld instruments and digital cameras while providing protection from damaging ESDs and lightning surges. The SMF05 and SMF12 are claimed as the first TVS devices to integrate ESD protection for four low-power data or I/O ports in a single 2.4 mm x 2.2 mm SC-70 package. The STF701 integrates two-line ESD protection and EMI/RFI filtering into the tiny SC-70 package. The family of devices eliminates the need for up to four discrete protection components while saving designers more than 40% board space.
