Combining flash memory storage with the speed of DRAM, these modules are able to store data such as IP addresses or instruction code in non-volatile flash and use the DRAM for fast information processing. The modules achieve their speed by pipelining the data coming out of the flash to operate at approximately 60 ns access time. Furthermore, the modules also increase speed by sharing a single bus for both memory technologies and housing the module's programmable logic device on the module. Local storage of the PLD makes logic revisions simple as adjustments can be made to a module rather than to a motherboard. The modules come in standard SIMM and DIMM memory board form factors. Applications include networking, telecomm, industrial equipment, servers, workstations and printers.
