Reportedly the first devices to integrate high-level features and drivers in chip-scale packages, the L6726A, L6727, L6728, and L6728A PWM controllers integrate a voltage reference, control logic, gate drivers, monitoring, and protection circuits into standard SO-8 or 3 mm x 3 mm DFN packages. Two of the chips offer a power-good output and output-voltage sense. The L6726A and L6727 are single-phase PWM controllers for creating general-purpose dc/dc step-down converters, while the L6728 and L6728A target the high-end motherboard market. They employ fixed-frequency, 300-kHz (L6728) and 600-kHz (L6728A) oscillators. The L6726A and L6727 come in SO-8 packages priced at $0.50 each/1,000. Samples of the L6728 and L6728A are available now in 3 mm x 3 mm DFN packages. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
