A new chassis has been designed for mission critical CompactPCI and VME64x systems utilizing high-density cards, such as for telecomm, datacomm, military and government systems, as well as other applications where a 1U size is critical. The S33-1U chassis houses a two-slot CPCI backplane that supports hot-swap and system management bus capability. Cards are rear-mounted in the chassis. The S33-1U is also said to feature sophisticated local and remote monitoring capabilities to support ongoing system performance and diagnostics. And to accommodate the greater heat generated by high-density boards, the S33-1U employs a push/pull cooling scheme with high-capacity cooling of up to 70W for each of the two slots, with no greater than 20° temperature rise at 55°C. This scheme works to overcome problems associated with pressure loss, ensuring consistent airflow. Airflow is distributed evenly within the chassis via seven fans providing 15 cfm each. The S33-1U unit has a 250W power supply and measures 350 x 483 x 44 mm. Pricing starts at $2,575. TRACEWELL SYSTEMS INC., Westerville, OH. (800) 848-4525.
