Helping users create video and imaging applications based on a variety of standards, including H.263, MPEG2, and Motion JPEG, the TMS320DM64x digital media development kit includes a 600-MHz TMS320DM642 evaluation board, XDS560 PCI-based emulator, a digital-media version of Code Composer Studio, and a comprehensive suite of software and utilities. Peripheral integration is achieved via three configurable 20-bit video I/O ports, a built-in Ethernet media-access controller, and a 32-bit PCI master/slave interface. The DM642 processes up to four simultaneous MPEG2 video decodes with a resolution of 720 x 480 at 30 fps and is capable of full main-profile-at-main-level MPEG-2 video encoding in real-time. The XDS560 emulator delivers bi-directional data streaming at speeds up to 2 MB/s and code download speeds of 500 kb/s. The board has 32 MB of external SDRAM, 4 MB of flash memory, composite video and S-Video input/output, a VGA output port, and an Ethernet port. Price is $6,495. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX.
