EL Lamp Driver IC Reduces Backlight Size

Dec. 1, 1999

With a 220Vpk-pk ac drive signal derived from dc or battery sources as low as 2V, IMP528 electroluminescent (EL) lamp driver, power management IC allows pager or cellular telephone displays to be easily backlighted by EL lamps without bulky transformers. EL lamp brightness increases with higher drive voltages. Functions included on the IC are boost switched-mode power supply, high-frequency oscillator, high-voltage H-bridge lamp driver, and low-frequency oscillator. External components needed include one inductor, one diode, one capacitor, and two resistors.
