Three power-management devices for driving LEDs and powering organic LEDs have been added to the PowerWise family of energy-efficient products. The devices are very small system solutions that extend battery life while enabling next-generation visual effects in portable media. The LM2755, which comes in a low-profile micro SMD package, enables multi-zone backlighting for three independent RGB or white indicator LEDs controlled by programmable pattern generators. Programmability, exponential dimming steps, and an I2C-compatible interface ensure flexibility and customization to fit various multimedia functions. The LM2757, also in a micro SMD package, requires just four tiny ceramic capacitors for a total solution size of less than 12 mm square. With high output current and pin-selectable output voltages, this device delivers an inductor-less solution well suited for peripheral lighting features, such as keypad lighting and USB On-The-Go (OTG) peripherals. Lastly, the LM4510 is a synchronous high-voltage boost regulator that supports OLED displays, which are much thinner and consume less energy than liquid crystal displays. The LM4510, which comes in a small LLP package, features up to 85% efficiency for longer battery life. The LM2755 and LM2757 cost $1.50 each and the LM4510 costs $1.80 each, all in quantities of 1,000. NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 272-9959.
