Designers of industrial control systems now have a module that can add DeviceNet connectivity to bar-code scanners, weigh scales, text displays, and other industrial devices having a serial communications port. Model DI03 Serial Gateway supports bi-directional serial communications with separate 64-byte transmit and receive buffers. Using only standard DeviceNet commands, Gateway is "taught" the serial and DeviceNet communication parameters, such as baud rate, parity and message size. The data packets are sent to and retrieved from Gateway by a PC or PLC using either polled or explicit DeviceNet messaging. And because Gateway passes ASCII characters or strings with the user-defined formatting, no customization of the firmware is required. DI03 DeviceNet Serial Gateway comes with free Visual Basic and C development tools.
