Sigma Designs has launched its ZM5304 “Z-Wave Serial Interface Module with Antenna” into volume production. According to the company, the device is its most easily integrated solution among the Z-Wave line. The self-contained, plug-and-play module, which includes a Z-Wave modem and built-in antenna, comes with full FCC modular approval and is pre-scanned for CE approval. As a result, companies can go directly to market without additional FCC testing. The module comes with high-level APIs to simplify application development. As new serial API features become available, the ZM5304’s firmware can be upgraded via USB or UART ports. It’s backward-compatible with previous versions of the serial API, which helps accelerate upgrades to existing Z-Wave products to the current fifth-generation platform. Other features include a 9.6/40/100-kbit/s data rate and hardware-assisted frequency agility with up to three channels.
