By reducing power consumption, the MC13740A dual-band down-converter IC improves battery life in GSM and TDMA cell phones. The chip integrates two complete down-converters in a single 24-pin plastic TQFP surface-mount package. Each down-converter in the device includes a low noise gain-selectable amplifier, a buffered local oscillator output, and a mixer. Excellent mixer linearity and selectable LNA gain states make it possible to meet cellular system linearity requirements while maintaining low power consumption. The chip maximizes application flexibility in IF frequency selection and filtering due to open collector outputs and simple off-chip LNA matching. It is usable at a wide range of frequencies up to 2.0 GHz, enabling its use in a variety of wireless end products. Applications include GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, TDMA cell phones, and 900-MHz industrial, scientific, and medical band applications. Pricing is $3.00 each/10,000.
