Level VI Energy Efficiency Compliance for More Than 100 of its OEM Power Adapters

March 2, 2016
Phihong has announced that more than 100 of its power adapters spanning 2.5" 120W and 5" 56V are compliant with the US Department of Energy's new Level VI energy efficiency requirements.

Phihong has announced that more than 100 of its power adapters spanning 2.5" 120W and 5" 56V are compliant with the US Department of Energy's (DOE's) new Level VI energy efficiency requirements, which will go into effect on February 10, 2016 and will impact all OEMs active in the US market.

Designed to conserve power in consumer and industrial products, the new Level VI energy efficiency standard increases active mode efficiency by approximately five percent, and reduces the allowable amount of no-load power consumption to 0.1W from the 0.5W allowed by Level IV efficiency standards. The Level VI standard also expands the range of products it governs to include multiple-voltage external power supplies and products with power levels higher than 250W. Medical power supplies approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), however, are still exempt.

The DOE estimates that its new Level VI efficiency standard will reduce emissions by nearly 47 million metric tons of carbon dioxide over the next 30 years, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 6.5 million homes, and will save consumers up to $3.8 billion in energy costs.
