Function Generator Line Expands to Add Keypads and Displays

June 19, 2013
A new line of function generator models offers precise waveforms and improves edge stability and minimizes jitter.

Three new DDS (direct digital synthesis) sweep function generator models have been announced that generate stable and precise sine, square, and triangle waveforms for education, training, and other applications. The new models have added full numeric keypads and large color displays and provide output voltages from 0 to 10 Vpp into 50 ohms or 20 Vpp into open circuit.

The B&K Precision DDS generator line is now home to the 4014B with a new 12 MHz function generator with sweep and AM/FM modulation functions. The 4045B model adds a 12-bit, 50 MSa/s, 1k point arbitrary waveform capability. The 4040B model replaces B&K’s previous20 Mhz model, the 4040DDS.

The three models combine traditional DDS technology with a low-jitter square wave generator to improve edge stability and minimize jitter. They also incorporate separate output amplitude and DC offset amplifiers, which allows users to set large DC offsets from -4.99 V to 4.99 V (into 50 ohms) with a small amplitude output signal as low as 10 mV.

As with previous models, the new generators include a rotary control knob, linear and logarithmic sweep function, AM/FM modulation, built-in counter, and a standard commands for programmable instruments (SCPI) compatible USB (virtual COM) interface.

Available now, the 4014B, 4040B, and 4045B DDS function generators are priced at $475, $550, and $750 respectively.
