How To Extract the Best Performance for On-Wafer RF Devices
What you’ll learn:
- Why are on-wafer probing systems useful?
- How Maury Microwave’s solution helps optimize gain and efficiency.
Incorporating RF and microwave support on-chip can be a challenge. This is where testing and calibration equipment like that available from Maury Microwave comes into play. It's combination of many tools from a variety of sources from oscilloscopes to vector network analyzers (VNAs).
I talked with Jonas Urbonas, General Manager at DBM Corporation, a Maury Microwave company, about their test equipment and how they support RF and microwave chip designs.
Some of the test equipment presented utilizes the Nano5G automated impedance tuner that’s optimized for maximum performance in 5G FR2 frequency bands (see figure). They have integrated couplers and are attached to a vector network analyzer (VNA). MPI Corporation provides the test bed.
Jonas also showed the company’s Nano Series of millimeter-wave tuners. They cover frequencies from 110 to over 300 GHz. The tuners provide reflection coefficients for the on-wafer test system. They can maintain a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 20:1.
