Phoenix Contact Goes Tool-Free with XPC 1.5 Connectors

July 9, 2024
The XPC 1.5 connectors feature Push-X technology that provides a toolless design for connecting rigid and flexible wires.
What you'll learn
  • Insight into Phoenix Contact's XPC 1.5 connectors
  • Knowledge of Push-X technology
  • How the toolless design works

Phoenix Contact's XPC 1.5 connectors are the first to feature the company's Push-X technology, a toolless mousetrap-like design for rigid and flexible conductors with or without ferrules. Unlike push-in connectors, Push-X can handle all types of conductors and uses a pre-tensioned contact spring inside the XPC PCB connector that catches the conductor and holds it securely once it is engaged.

According to Phoenix Technology, Push-X (Fig. 1) makes conductor wiring even more efficient. The new technology allows users to connect all types of conductors directly, with virtually no force and without the use of tools. Even the smallest flexible conductors without ferrules can be wired effortlessly. Technicians, for example, can insert a stripped conductor into an open terminal position, which releases a spring mechanism to lock the conductor in place, complete with an audible click. Releasing the conductor is just as easy and is done by simply pressing an orange button and pulling on the conductor.
The XPC 1.5 connectors are offered in 2 to 12 positions, supporting 22-16 AWG solid wire and 20-16 standard wire. The connectors are also compatible with Phoenix Contact's COMBICON PCB headers, allowing them to be used with both vertical and horizontal headers, making them ideal for a number of applications.
