The combination of advanced performance and design features together with low power dissipation and small form factor reportedly enable the AMBE-2000 Vocoder chip to deliver toll-quality speech at 4.0 kbps. Well-suited for wireless applications in the commercial, consumer and military markets, the Vocoder chip is capable of operating at virtually any user-defined bit rate between 2.0 and 9.6 kbps. The IC's convolutional FEC encoder with Vitterbi decoder is capable of 4-bit soft-decision decoding and operation at bit error rates of up to 10%-20% (using R = 1/4). It also offers full-/half-duplex operation, automatic voice/silence detection, and echo cancellation.
