iToF Sensor Delivers Precision Distance Plus 3D Imaging

March 20, 2025
onsemi’s Hyperlux ID family of indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensors offer high precision at a long distance in addition to 3D imaging of fast-moving objects.

Taking on demanding apps like industrial processing management, onsemi’s Hyperlux ID family is claimed as the first real-time, indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensor that offers high precision at long distance as well as 3D imaging of fast-moving objects. The sensors, which leverage the company’s proprietary global shutter pixel architecture, can capture an entire scene while simultaneously providing depth measurements in real-time.

These capabilities address the limitations of standard iToF sensors and enable depth sensing up to 30 meters. The small-form-factor sensor family can produce both monochrome images and depth information simultaneously, providing a comprehensive view of the environment without needing separate sensors for visual and depth data.

Features include higher resolution and better ambient light suppression than legacy iToF sensors,. The Hyperlux ID devices integrate processing to calculate depth and deliver intensity maps at high speeds, suitable for capturing moving objects. They offer the farthest depth sensing in the industry, as well as operation under dynamic scene conditions.
